Heya folks. In preparation for a website launch as well as some major advertisement work, I realized that Eve Online Hold'Em doesn't even have a logo. =/ So I would like to remedy this. So here's what I would like to do:
The Mission: Produce a creative, stylish logo for EOH. Somewhat Vegas, somewhat business. The Reward: A minimum of 500 Million ISK to the logo I and the staff like best and choose to use. Depending on how mind blowing it is, I may pay more. The Protocol: Link to your images in this thread. Use watermarks to protect your work. The Deadline: Midnight, EVE time, next Wednesday evening (one week from today -- July 16th).
I am really looking for any and all ideas here. No special requirements, other than (most likely) the use of the acronym EOH in the logo. The image should be fairly compact so as to be worked into a website header, forum sig banner, ad banner, etc. There is a chance we will pick none and pay no one if none of the logos are acceptable (i.e., we're not paying 500m to a crap entry if they're the only one who submits). If I am missing out on important information, please ask, and I will update this as soon as I see it.

Wow, I'm surprised to see multiple submissions already. I will try to post feedback later in case any of you want to provide additional submissions based on said feedback. Keep them coming =)
Also do try to keep the images smallish, or link to the images if they are huge, I don't want us getting whacked.

Guess I'll have to find another way to get rich =*(
Please don't let that deter you from trying. While I like a few things about each of these, none of them make me go "that's it, I wish I could close the competition now, that is the one."
As for feedback:
Phirephly: Not sure how I feel about the yellow behind the service text. Chip is nice, cards are creative, overall concept needs more detail to it.
Satrani: Yeah, first one is waaaaay too Disney =P The whole fabulous thing is cute, but not my style. I'm also not sure how I feel about the giant poker chip bloom thing on the left. It's neat, but a bit much? Vegas strip shot might be a nice background fade for a banner.
Umbra: Chips + Cards is a nice idea (sucking up with my portrait, I like it though =P). I like the last one the best I think, but it's much more of a banner than a logo. Chips/Cards are a little too bright/plasticy? The chip itself could work for a logo, but it needs something more.
So I like what I see, but none of them jump out at me. I do like the brightness/crispness, but the brightness needs to be more under control, and more of that EVE-Industrial feel would be awesome. Crisp black borders are something I've always liked. Thin, sleek (metallic sometimes?), and making an image stick out. Not sure what else to throw out there.
Perhaps I should clarify also that I am really focusing on the logo itself, as opposed to the banner it's presented on. I would like something that we can place in many different contexts and types of banners.

Edited by: Selene D''Celeste on 11/07/2008 16:57:55 I like Phi's new entry. Not sure what to say about it though. Very creative Xelios, I never would have thought of that. I almost want to make that a button and hand them out (fanfest?) =) The 'EOH' is a little stretched though, but it doesn't look that bad all in all. Still a bit odd. Not sure what kind of feedback to give. Button.
I like the variety in ideas. Keep em coming folks!

As far as the print media Phirephly mentioned, if you need logos for publication/printing (?) let us know, because making them for web display and printing is two different things.
My apologies, I should be more specific. I would like the logo primarily for the web, but I also want the logo -concept- to be workable in print media.

We're getting a lot of fantastic entries here, I really didn't expect this. I'm also wondering if Wednesday is too soon to halt this. How do the current applicants feel about extending the deadline until next weekend? Also given the nice variety and quality of logos I'm seeing here, I'm seriously considering 100m runner-up prizes for the use of (some) logos that don't win. I want to mention both of these things now to see if anyone has a problem with either alteration/addition to the contest? |

Nope. And unless there are any objections, I am pushing the deadline back to the weekend, let's say Saturday night, 12:00 EVE time. That way I can check in with the staff on the weekend (when most at least stop by) and it gives you all more time / some weekend time, to work on entries.

More neat entries. I probably should do a round of feedback before the deadline, which is now Saturday. Also for some inspiration for new types of designs (not sure if I will like them or not):
A logo that uses this kind of style might look good:

And a logo with this kind of shiny quality and color brightness might look good:

Yeah I was randomly searching through logos on deviantart looking for random creative things. Sue me =D

Nice late additions. I will spend tonight and tomorrow bugging my staff and deciding who I think deserves the top prize ;) As mentioned in the OP I may extend offers to use other graphics for lesser fees in order to own some variety.
I will also be looking for some actual ad design / layout work soon, but that's neither here nor now. The winner(s) should be announced by the end of the day tomorrow =)

I apologize for the delay in my announcement folks, some annoyances came up this weekend. I have almost finalized the list, and will post it and send rewards and begin dialogues for further artwork either tomorrow or Tuesday, work pending. Thanks for your patience and for all of the awesome entries =)

Edited by: Selene D''Celeste on 23/07/2008 17:07:01 Edited by: Selene D''Celeste on 23/07/2008 17:05:28 Hey folks,
I now have finalized the list of winners (1 winner, 5 honorable mentions). I have been very busy with work lately and once again apologize for the delay on the announcement here. The winners of this competition are:
Contest Winner: Xevan Templar, Post #42 Honorable Mention: Phirephly, Post #10 Honorable Mention: Umbra Dawn, Post #5 Honorable Mention: niroku, Post #23 Honorable Mention: Arcanim Al'Seif, Post #32 Honorable Mention: Hovain Ulord, Post #46/51
If your name is not on the list above it does not mean I do not like your artwork, it simply doesn't target what I was aiming for with EOH and any of the advertisements I would like to do. Now for the reasons for the choices. The winner (Xevan) was chosen due to both the variety and quality of skill shown, and in particular the suite of logos/banners shown starting with the Poker Table entry in post #42. The honorable mentions vary greatly in reason for being chosen. Phi's logo shows promise as a forum sig, umbra's last graphic in post #5 may be a little cheesy, but works well as a banner. niroku's concept is almost perfect for, say, a logo to be printed in a magazine or in a black and white medium, even if the logo itself isn't quite what I want (we'll chat). Arcanim's cards are creative, and I need to look for the cost of custom sets of cards to be printed, because I might hire him to design some (maybe a massive Tournament prize? We'll have to look into CCP's rules on such things). Finally, Hovain's chip stack entry may have been "stolen", but it's still not a bad entry. However the real reason Hovain is on the list is due to the slogan in Post #51, which I want to incorporate into a lot of the work I plan on commissioning out of you guys.
Prizes will be the 500m prize stated in the OP, and 100m prizes to each of the honorable mentions. In exchange for each prize I simply ask for at least one (1) piece of artwork from this thread, possibly with alterations, and with no watermarks as well as permission to use it in advertising. ISK will change hands once those details are finalized, and I will go into talks with most if not all of you to produce additional works.
I really appreciate all of the effort here and the artistic talent is impressive, and I hope this event has proven useful to many (artwork for EOH, ISK for others, advertisement for all of the artists here). Thanks again and I will speak with the people on the list above in-game sometime this week. Cheers all, and post here in case I forgot to mention something!
Edit: Xevan and others, can you please shrink the images that are so large they break the thread's width, or show a thumbnail and link to them? It would be appreciated =)
Double Edit: Also to jump the question of why I didn't award more than 500m to the winner, I decided to spread the love around with honorable mentions instead. Also, I fully expect to commission a lot of pieces from the artists here, so more money will be flowing from me before too long (sigh =P).

Don't worry, I'll make you work for it =D
And yes, EON is one of several destinations I have in mind for the work I am going to commission. I'm still looking into how to arrange that however.

I've been slow this week, but an evemail to all six winners has been sent out. As mentioned therein, I will contact you each individually (or vice versa) starting tomorrow night (I promise I will have time) to do payments and to discuss variations.
And once again I appreciate all of the entries here =)

Okay, everyone has sent me their originals for the entries here, and the winners have been paid. I'll send out some recommendations on variations and sizes and future ideas to you guys as soon as I get some specs laid out (later today probably). Also feel free to bug me when you see me online in-game. We're done here then I guess, thanks again folks =)
